Happy New Year!

Well, not officially yet, but since it is Christmas break I am a few days ahead of the game for once! Not that I want to talk about it yet, but we head back to school Thursday, which gives me two days to get the kiddos back in a routine before a full week. I'm planning on doing this fun New Year's Resolution craftivity. It will give us some writing practice, a pretty simple craft, plus something to hang in the hall to fill the bare spaces where Christmas used to be!

This craftivity comes with 20 different New Year's graphic organizers to choose from. I'm planning on using some of the writing pages to make a class book too. My kids love our class books!

You can get the New Year's craftivity here. As a special Happy 2014 gift to you, here is one of the pages for free! Click on the picture to download My 2014 Reading Goals.

I hope everyone enjoys the last few days of 2013. Wishing you a new year filled with smiles and laughter!

Let the Last Week Roll!

It is FINALLY the last week before Christmas break!!!! My firsties have been loving my Roll-Tac-Toe games and I have a feeling these will get a lot of use during the last few days before break.

I created Roll-Tac-Toe because it always bugs me how often Tic-Tac-Toe ends in a draw. Rolling the die and limiting the choice of spaces seems to change the odds of the game and adds a little more excitement. I love Roll-Tac-Toe for my kids because it is usually short, sweet and to the point. I can put it in a center for independent practice, use it in a small group to help strugglers or send it home for extra practice. It is also super easy to prep...just print and add some game markers. I found a big bag of adorable Christmas erasers at Michaels that have worked perfectly. Sometimes I just use colored chips or cubes, but themed markers are always exciting! I usually don't laminate the boards-just stick 2 different game boards back to back in a page protector. This saves some prep time and gives the kids a choice of games.

You can snag a copy from my TPT store here (CVC version) or here (CVVC/CVCe version). I also have a few other versions of Roll-Tac-Toe and plan on making some winter themed boards for after the break.  I hope that your last few days of school before the break roll along quickly!

First Annual Holiday Cookie Swap Linky Party

I happened to be baking these delicious Peanut Butter cookies and multitasking by reading a few blogs when I discovered this Cookie Swap Linky Party. How fun!! Teaching blogs and cookie recipes together? Double fun!

My husband LOVES peanut butter and often requests peanut butter cookies. I was never a big fan of PB cookies until I found this recipe. These cookies seem to have the right ratio of peanut butter to cookie. Plus they are super quick and easy and I usually have the ingredients on hand. Triple win! Click on the picture to download a copy of the recipe for yourself.

Be sure to visit Emily at The Reading Tutor/OG to visit the cookie linky and find some yummy cookie recipes. Head on over and link up yours too!

Santa is Coming to Virginia

I double heart LOVE Costco. My Costco love continued to grow last week when I found "Santa is Coming to Virginia" by Steve hardcover...for under $6!

This story takes you on an adventure with Santa through famous landmarks and buildings in Virginia. My first graders absolutely loved this story. It was perfect for making connections and a few even swore they saw their own houses in the illustrations (of course they did...the Christmas spirit of six year olds is so adorable!). Santa himself could probably hear the excitement from my kiddos as I read the story. Don't worry if you're not from the lovely state of Virginia- this book is available about other states too. If you can't find it at your local friendly Costco,  Amazon and Barnes and Noble carry it also-you'll just pay a few bucks more.

Happy TPT-versary to me!

A year ago I decided to take that leap into selling products on Teachers Pay Teachers. I was so surprised that people actually enjoyed my products and would pay money for them! I'm thankful for the support, feedback and encouragement I've received as a TPT newbie. I've had good intentions of starting a teaching blog, but like all great teachers say...when to fit it in ? With a year of TPT under my belt I figure it is as good a time as any! So whether you are a loyal follower of my products or new to An Adventure in Literacy, I urge you to follow me in this adventure we call teaching literacy (and other subjects too!). After all, life is more fun when you consider it an adventure!
