Springing into Science Blog Hop- Let the Sun Shine!

It's time to spring into science! I've teamed up with some blogger friends to bring you some great science ideas, freebies, and giveaways.

I don't know about you, but I am so excited to see the sun out!!!!  The winter has been way too long this year! We celebrated the sunshine in my classroom by integrating language arts into our science sun unit.

We started off with a simple is/has/can chart. As we gained new information we added it to the chart. The students added their sun facts to the chart on sun diecuts.  The students were able to complete their own is/has/can chart and use the facts to write informational reports on the sun.

Part of our Virginia SOL standard is to interpret the relationship of the sun's position in the sky and the general time of day.  We sang a fun song and completed a graphic organizer to help them remember. I love their individual interpretations!

Of course the best part of the unit was the experiments! We experimented to see if ice would melt faster in sun or shade, the difference in water temperature in sun and shade, and the difference in air temperature in sun and shade.  Each experiment had a foldable recording sheet where the students could record their predictions on the front and results on the inside.  You can grab a free copy of the ice melting experiment here.

If you want to have some fun in the sun in your classroom check out my Let the Sun Shine mini science unit.  It includes 37 pages of sun fun that integrates science and language arts.

Follow my adventures and enter to win a free copy!  I'll be giving away two free copies to share my sunshine!

Creative Freebies with Creative Clips Link Up

I just LOVE Creative Clips Clip Art! Krista has reached 10,000 followers and is celebrating with some awesome freebies. To join her celebration, several bloggers have joined together to offer some fun freebies using her clip art.

As I sit on my patio enjoying the warm air and beautiful flowers I am convinced that spring is FINALLY here. Can I get a big YAHOO?!?!?! Spring just makes me happy. Plus it means summer is right around the corner!!!! I adore Creative Clips Buggy clip art, so I decided to create a roll-tac-toe game with a buggy theme to add that spring fever to the classroom.

If you're not familiar with my Roll-Tac-Toe games, they are Tic-Tac-Toe with a twist. Each player rolls, reads a word in that row, and tries to get tic-tac-toe. You can grab the short o freebie game here.

If you really want to add some buggy fun to your class, check out the full version of Going Buggy CVC Roll-Tac-Toe.

It includes 10 CVC games-1 for each vowel, 1 for an/am, and 4 with mixed vowels. There are also game markers, game directions, a score sheet, and recording sheet.

If you're interested in long vowels, there is a CVVC/CVCe version too!

Head on over to A Tale of 2 First Grades for more Creative Freebies or to link up your own!
